Marchon is one of the world’s largest manufacturers and distributors of eyewear and sunwear. Fashion oriented and technologically advanced, the firm engaged Spacesmith to design and administer a phased renovation and expansion of their NYC headquarters.
Marchon occupied multiple non-contiguous floors within the building. They seized upon the opportunity to expand when a full floor plate became available and decided to join two floors with a connecting stair. The renovation was executed in successive phases, beginning with the expansion space. Once the two floors were completed, the circulation stair was installed. This phasing provided crucial separation for employees from construction, minimizing disruption.
The new staircase with open risers was placed in front of a window, allowing daylight to stream into informal meeting areas at the landing. On either side of the stairs along the window wall, showrooms and private offices frame shared workspaces. Interior glass partitions allow for borrowed light to reach into the center of the floorplate.
Our team designed the much-needed storage cabinets installed beneath workstations. These custom-made units were strategically placed throughout the office to hold the manufacturer’s significant amount of inventory. Intentionally designed to be taller than normal with counter height bar stools, these stations allow employees to comfortably show samples stored within.
