a high-end French café

Spacesmith continues its longstanding partnership with Ladurée as executive architect for its Hudson Yards location—one of the first Ladurée Cafés in the US. As the brand expands into the café scene, the design introduces newly branded furniture and finishes to support a more casual aesthetic.

Working closely with Ladurée’s in-house design team, Paris-based Studio Ravn, Spacesmith helped translate the initial design package into a feasible build. Our scope included reviewing submittals and leading value-engineering efforts to maintain budget alignment while preserving the design intent.

Throughout construction, we coordinated closely with the landlord and their in-house consultants, leading weekly calls, conducting site visits, and ensuring all work adhered to restricted hours—Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm—to avoid disrupting peak shopping times.

Located in a prominent corner of the Hudson Yards shopping mall, the 1,000 sf café includes 800 sf of front-of-house space and 200 sf of back-of-house. This café introduces soft seating and café tables—an intentional shift aligned with Ladurée’s evolving strategy. The counter itself features brushed brass detailing and tambour wood painted in a deep green, a new addition to the brand’s palette.

Ladurée’s signature checkered and gingham patterns appear throughout the space—in custom Pierre Frey upholstery, imported French ceiling and wallcoverings, patterned floor tiles, and even a branded espresso machine. We also collaborated with local vendor Crown Sign Systems to design and fabricate custom brass signage with integrated lighting. The final result blends Ladurée’s classic Parisian charm with a modern edge, capturing the brand’s refreshed design standards and creating a distinct café experience.
